Is it better to book a ticket to Vietnam online or by travel agency?

I am planning to go on vacation from Aug 13th to Sept 23. Gas prices are rising... Will the prices drop by then? Should I book it online or by travel agency? When should I book it? I would very much appreciate the help. It's insurance and their butts on the line to make sure you get from point A to point B. That's part of why you pay extra for booking through a travel agency. You can save money by booking direct or online, but you're on your own if something goes wrong.



Gas prices are volatile right now, and there is no assurance that prices will drop (or increase) six months from now. Also, airlines take weeks to adjust fares due to price of gas fluctuations.



August through December is the slower part of the year for Vietnam travel and usually the cheapest time to travel there. It's advised to book as far out as possible. However, booking within two weeks during off season or weekday flights can usually find some great deals from cancellations and/or under booked flights.

My flight was about $300 cheaper online then it was at the travel agency.



HOWEVER, if you have a travel agency that specializes in Asia\VN then you could find a better deal.



When to buy it kind of tricky. I would book it with a Vietnamese travel agency because they will take care the visa application for you too. Also, most (if not all) of the time they give you the best price comparing to online. Book your ticket directly from airline's website. Don't go through a middle guy.
