Is there a good way to find travel companions online?

Like a site for finding travel companions in your area? I was thinking of going to Japan or China, and I think I would get more out of the experience if I was able to go with someone who is a native/speaks the language/is very familiar with the area.Is there a good way to find travel companions online?Couch surfing is a good place to find someone, or many people for that matter.
