Can you travel without a indefinate leave to remain stamp on a indian passport?

my friend has an indefinate leave to remain stamp, can he travel with his indian passport without the residence permit or will he need it on the passport? They've issued a new indian passport and it expires in a year's time, does this mean that he has to wait a year before he can actually travel abroad? Can you travel without a indefinate leave to remain stamp on a indian passport? The ILR stamp is his residency permit..it is what gives him permission to live and work in the UK. This is permanently affixed to a page inside the passport, and cannot be removed.

If his passport expires and he has a new one, all he needs to do is travel with both passports. Show the old one with the ILR visa, and the new one as well. A lot of people do this, as it costs a lot of money to have the visa transfered to the new passport.

DonnaCan you travel without a indefinate leave to remain stamp on a indian passport? He needs the ILR stamp to get back into the UK so either he arranges to have it transferred to his new passport or travels with the old one as well to show it to the British Immigration Authorities on his return

edit: he CANNOT remove the stamped page from the old passporrt, if he won't go to the time %26amp; trouble to get the ILR placed in the new passport then he must carry the old passport with him with the stamp still inside

If he removes the relevant page from the old passport he may as well bin it because he will render it useless
