How much will it cost to travel around america for a month?

Basically I want to travel around and see america, maybe using the greyhound bus and staying at hostels. How much would this cost overall (flights, bus, hostels). How much will it cost to travel around america for a month? This is nearly impossible to answer because "travel around America" is way too vague. You need to start with at least a rough idea of what part of the US you want to see. To put a little perspective into it, a flight from NYC to LA is about 6 hours, a flight from NYC to London, England is less than 7 hours. How much will it cost to travel around america for a month?A lot. The U.S. does not have nearly as many hostels as other countries, and greyhound isn't that cheap. You can figure about $20 to $50 per night, and about $50-$100 per bus ticket.

You might end up spending around $10,000 or so.

A better solution, assuming you have a drivers license to to buy a used car, and get some camping gear. Camping out west is cheap, as in $10 per night, or free in many Bureau of Land Management or National Forest Campgrounds. You can also purchase an annual pass to the National Parks for $85 so you won't have to pay an entrance fee at any of them.

You could buy the car for $8,000 or so, and sell it at the end of your stay for almost what you paid for it.

Another great site to check out is couchsurfer.com You can find a lot of free places to stay there.
