Who pays for reporters to travel with presidential candidates?

In some reports you hear that a candidate spoke with reporters on a plane. Who pays for the travel. Does the canidate pay for the reporter, hoping to get better coverage in the media. Or do the reporters (their companies) hoping to get more material to write about.Who pays for reporters to travel with presidential candidates?As a previous answerer noted, the news organizations do. Our pundit class looks on this as a kind of "spring break" which kind of explains why the reporting is so shoddy.



Also, the various campaigns give all sorts of perks to the pundits/reporters and love to wine and dine them. Clinton tried to woo them, but they decided she's that kind of "smart girl" that "cool kids" don't hang with.



McCain has a very cozy relationship with the press, and has wined and dined them well. They tend to give him a pass and talk about what a maverick he is rather than actually approach his policies.



Obama tends to rely on his ground game vs the press, but he can't be treating them too badly, since they haven't whined *too* much about him.Who pays for reporters to travel with presidential candidates?I'm sure it would be the news organizations they work for. The reporter might pay for it up front then they are reimbursed. It's all a part of the job. I had a couple of friends that worked for news organizations and it was all paid for by the employer. They were even allowed money for meals and lodging and rental car.
