I recently read that finding reliable _local_ tour operators for travel in Egypt is difficult, and that hotels are often times part of fraud that either overcharge tourists or do not deliver on the promises made for local Egyptian travel packages (i.e. site seeing at the pyramids, day trip to Sakara, trip to Alexandria, etc.).
Please let me know your tips for finding a local and reliable Egyptian travel agent. Please note that I am not asking for any travel agent in particular but for how to go about finding one. Thanks! How do I find a reliable travel agent for local travel in Egypt?I work in the field and it's not easy at all to explain how you can find one. There are many good ones but for the normal tourist all what he can do is to check how they deal with tourists or clients. If they keep the word or not. If they are always careless or not.

when u get there, right across the st from the musuem is the 'travel agent' district....or at least thats what I call it. Go into Several and compare packages etc. DONT go with the guy on the street telling u he has the hook up. Go into Professional looking places and see how their english is etc...ask LOTS of questions about guarantees etc etc. You will do ok. ask google for myegypt, saying no more,How do I find a reliable travel agent for local travel in Egypt? After living here for several years, I can recommend the following site:
http://www.seeegypt.com/ They are located in Maadi.
Lots of folks here have used them for our family trips to Lexor, Nile Cruises and for local tours in Cairo and Alexanfria. A good group, familiar with foreign travelers and very helpful. They get better airline pricing then Thomas Cook on international travel also. Enjoy
