How far would you travel everyday for a job?

I have been offered a new position doing something I always wanted to do. The job is 40 miles one way. How many would travel the distance to gain the experience as well as a salary increase?How far would you travel everyday for a job?As a fellow Houstonian I'd say go for it. My travel time varies from 45 minutes to 1:15 depending on where my client is located. I have found that if prepared, you can make this time work to your benefit and actually look forward to the drive.



My trick is audio books. I get audio books from the library (hooray for free entertainment) and listen to them during my commute.



Just make sure when you are analyzing the new pay, that commuting will suck up a good deal of money. And if you are going downtown...which it sounds like you are...you'll probably have to pay for parking as well, which is $5 a day if you are lucky. That translates to something like $1200 in parking costs alone. How far would you travel everyday for a job?

If the money is good and you can afford the gas, then do it! 40 miles will seem like nothing once you get used to the job, believe me! Bring your favorite music or recorded books to make the commute more enjoyable.

Plenty of people commute that far or more, especially in big cities, as long as you can afford it and know you can make it on time everyday, you should be fine :) How far would you travel everyday for a job?I don't commute now, but I did for eight months, it was 55 miles one way. It wasn't bad I actually enjoyed the drive time. I took lots of music and books on CD to listen too. Just make sure the new salary is enough to cover wear and tear on your vehicle, oil changes and of course gas (at the high end so your safe). If its a job that you always wanted I would go for it.
