I've been browsing the Melbourne Met website wondering which travel pass I should purchase for use during my 7 day holiday this June.
I only want to travel to places within the CBD and the inner suburbs.
Which pass would be the best ... and the best value! What is the cheapest public transport prepaid travel pass option for my holiday in Melbourne, Australia? In general use this rule...
If you plan to use PT every day of your visit, and don't plan on walking, using free tourist bus/tram services, or have any other travel arrangements that would mean not using PT, or getting PT for free for some reason, then consider a weekly Metcard. All days used must be taken consecutively.
(Don't forget that V/Line ticket holders get free PT in Melbourne for the days their V/Line ticket is valid, so use that and you may have up to 2 days covered out of your 7 if you have a valid return V/Line ticket.)
If however two or more days out of your 7 you will not catch PT, either as you are walking, using free tourist bus/tram services, have any other travel arrangements that would mean not using PT, or getting PT for free for some reason, then it may me possible to consider a 10 x 2 hour ticket, this will give you up to a maximum of 5 days of travel (not needed to be consecutive), or 10 * 2 hour trips (not needed to be consecutive) or certain combinations therefore.
Both types cost $29.40 ($14.70 Concession) zone 1 only. (Note: weekly Metcards give you extra travel into zone 2 on weekends as well. You cannot buys these on Trams. Busses may sell 10 x 2 hour tickets, but I have yet to try that.)What is the cheapest public transport prepaid travel pass option for my holiday in Melbourne, Australia? You say 7 days, does this include the days you arrive and depart and if so how much time do you have. In the inner city you can get by with walking if you only have a few hours to spare.
I know you can get a 5 day pass. You just go anywhere that sells tram tickets, such as convenience stores and buy one. They are valid for trams, trains and buses.
For transport from the airport use the skybus. I think it was $30 return and brings you by bus to spencer street station then by shuttle to your hotel and picks you up when you leave again. What is the cheapest public transport prepaid travel pass option for my holiday in Melbourne, Australia?a weekly or monthly zone one and 2 ticket.

Grab a metcard, the best one would be probably a weekly metcard, zone 1 this allows travel within the Melbourne CBD and certain areas in Greater Melbourne..they sell for about AUD $29 and cover Trams, Buses and Trains. You can either get them from a train station or places like 7/11.
