How much does travel affect players over the season?

I know these guys fly charters/team planes and stay in nice hotels, but does the travel have an effect on energy and effort as the season goes on?

I spent more than half of April on the road, and I was exhausted. If a non-athlete like me feels that way, how much effect does it have on guys who have to perform athletically every night? Maybe someone on here who played minor league ball has some insight on this one?How much does travel affect players over the season?I know that in the minors...travel kicks the living crap out of you. You travel by bus to all the locations, you are sleeping in motel beds that feel like they were not taken out of the box. We had to get our own food after the games so you were not always eating too healthy when Taco Bell is the only option at midnight. Staying at home each night has a great effect on your routine, you are staying in a comfortable bed that if questionable substances are on it you at least know that you put them there, you can monitor your food better than eating at a restaurant, you can get in a better workout each day, your locker room is usually a decent locker room for the home team, in the Cal league there were a few stadiums that we had to take turns getting dressed because only half the team fit in the locker room at one time...showers in those places are like showering in MASH units...it is not a great situation, only the hearty survive. Even staying luxurious hotel rooms all the time and flying on charters would nto be a cake walk...you still end up with cramping, jet lag...it is not a matter of money it is a matter as the body can only do so much! How much does travel affect players over the season?
I'm sure it affects them a lot. Being on a plane for hours, then getting off and playing a game has got to be pretty tiring.

After the Red Sox played their season opener in Japan, they went to LA for an exhibition game, went to Oakland for the A's home opener, and then went to Toronto for the Jays' home opener.

After being in three countries and four cities, the Red Sox were a mess by the time they got to Toronto. I'd say that was a big part of why they got swept by the Jays. Even some of the Jays players were saying that they knew the Red Sox were worn out and weren't playing their best.

Anyways... that's an EXTREME example of players being affected by travel. How much does travel affect players over the season?I think it is acutally over emphasized.

These guys are in top physical condition, they DON'T fly like we fly. They eat the best of the best, they stay in very comfortable accomidations, and they don't have the worries, and problems that normal travelers have. All that stuff is taken care of for them. Granted time zone adjustments are still tough, but compare how Joe Business Man travels, vs. how the Yankees would travel. I bet they don't have to worry about luggage, tickets, rent-a-car, hotel rooms, food (for the most part), etc. Just show up take a nap, and play tomorrow night.

Tough, yes. But I feel like you would get used to it quick. How much does travel affect players over the season?
Quite a bit, travel can be stressful, tiring, and just falt out hard for the players. I mean you think about it, if you had to be away from your wife/kids for a week or more you wouldnt be too happy now would you?How much does travel affect players over the season?it doesnt help them any!It exhaust them its very tiring.Driving thru the night to get to a game is not very good. They are exhausted and cramping when they get off the busHow much does travel affect players over the season?
They love it. Get to be away from family, buy hookers, trash hotel rooms... I know I would... GO AROD
