I am thinking of starting up on my own, but can't figure out where the real money comes from.
Home travel agents are very common, but apart from franchising, how does the revenue come in?
Any tips are greatly appreciated!
ThanksHow do independent travel agents make money?Commission on sales. Holidays, filghts, travel insurance, tickets to theme parks etc. The margins are small though, typically 10 - 15%. I guess you need to find a niche as there is a lot of competion out there. I once read about a hotel room discounter who made just over 拢2 per booking which seems like peanuts, however they were making close to 2 million bookings a year. Food for thought - go high end, niche or as in the example, high turnover? How do independent travel agents make money? This isn't an educated(travel agent) answer but i've studied tourism and i believe is it when airlines give out deals that are slightly cheaper, Having a name to you would be better because airlines would already give the company deals, starting from scratch could be a hard.
This business might not be the best choice though, this is because the internet allows travellers to purchase tickets straight from the airline, the internet being the big thing at the moment this is what everyone is doing, also if you start from scratch allows you to choose your own packages.
offering an easy way to book a holiday would be your high selling point.
Im not to sure if you new all this already but i hope it helped.
