What is the best way to travel from New Jersey to New York?

I need to travel from Rutgers University to downtown Manhattan (Avenue of the Americas), on a weekend and am exploring options. I'll also be travelling from downtown Manhattan to the Newark airport and back.

Time, cost and convenience are all factors. Please advise. What is the best way to travel from New Jersey to New York?NJ Transit.

You can pick up the train in New Brunswick (If you are talking about Rutgers in New Brunswick) or at Penn Station Newark (if you are talking Rutgers Newark) and take it to Penn Station New York. Penn Station is on 32nd street and 7th Ave. The Avenue of the America's (6th Ave) is one block east. You don't really say where you want to go on 6th Ave though.

NJ Transit also goes to Newark Airport.

Go to the NJ Transit site for details on times:
