How do I travel without dishing out too much money?

I want to go overseas. I love to travel and to learn more about the world. Problem is... I'm a college student and I don't have a lot of money to pay for my school's fancy study abroad trips. And after school... I'm afraid that I most definitely will not have a chance. Does anyone know of any programs or jobs that I can enter? Maybe something where I can work for my time spent over seas? Ideas would be nice. Thank you.How do I travel without dishing out too much money? If you're coming from the US, then it would be illegal for you to work here in Europe without first having a visa that allows work. If you're Canadian or Australian, you may be able to get a working holiday visa though. For US citizens similar opportunities exist in Ireland or Australia. However, in the current economy actually finding a job would be pretty difficult. EU citizens have the right to live and work within the EU freely; others need a visa to legally work here. The unemployment rates are high and jobs are scarce. Tough new sanctions have been passed; working off the books isn't really viable any more.

Volunteer programs where you work abroad aren't paying jobs. In fact for most of those, you have to pay. My daughter worked in the Cloud Forest in Costa Rica one year and loved in there. I can't remember what that trip cost, but it wasn't really too bad at the time.

However, don't despair of the opportunity to travel after you get out of school. I didn't travel before I got out of school either and it was some time before I started doing a lot of travel. As it turned out, I've been living in Italy for the last ten years now. You never know what opportunities will come along. Just keep a positive attitude and have a passport even if you don't have specific plans to use it.
